Steven Barilla, MD, the primary physician at Plantation Dermatology, is double board-certified in dermatology and as a Mohs surgeon. He earned his medical degree from Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. While in medical school, Dr. Barilla was awarded the Charles M. Howell Memorial Excellence in Dermatology Award. After medical school, Dr. Barilla completed his Internship at Northwell Health Plainview Hospital in Plainview, NY, and his Dermatology Residency at Northwell Health in New York.
He conducted numerous research projects related to healthcare disparities, skin cancer, and Mohs surgery. This research led to Dr. Barilla being awarded the coveted 2020 Cutting Edge Research Grant by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery for his work analyzing patient preferences for the use of teledermatology in Mohs surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Barilla has published various texts on his findings, including a textbook chapter, and numerous peer-reviewed publications. He has also presented his research at both local and national dermatology conferences.
Dr. Steven Barilla is fellowship-trained in Mohs surgery, one of the most effective treatments for melanoma skin cancer. His training under Dr. Eduardo Weiss also included cosmetic dermatological surgeries to address common concerns such as facial rejuvenation, scar revision, and skin tightening. This comprehensive background allows Dr. Barilla to provide his patients with both life-saving cancer treatments and advanced cosmetic procedures to enhance and restore their skin’s appearance.
